At MAKA Earth, we believe that sustainability is more than just an important idea, it's a necessity. We work in harmony with nature to help preserve our precious and fragile environment for future generations.
Regenerative Grow Methods
We grow industrial hemp on our own farms, facilities, and partnering farms in Colorado to keep quality high and costs low. We are so fortunate that hemp is inherently sustainable. Hemp requires one-third of the water for a successful grow compared to cotton and many other crops. Hemp also puts a high percentage of nutrients back into the ground, resulting in healthier soils that sequester a larger amount of carbon.
We water and feed our hemp plants with a subsurface drip irrigation system that draws from an irrigation ditch and delivers just the right amount of water to our hemp. Water and soil are tested for microbes, chemical contaminants, and heavy metals regularly to ensure that our plants and the growing environment are healthy and safe.
After the plants are harvested by hand, we plant cover crops such as clover, mustard, rye, peas, and Sudan grass. These crops improve the soil's health by protecting it from erosion, making the land more nutrient dense, and reducing the need for pesticides. And of course, we test our hemp plants at multiple stages throughout their growth so the end results are a high level of CBD and less than 0.3% THC, in compliance with all major environmental and certification guidelines.
Non-Toxic Manufacturing Practices
The extraction and formulating processes of our hemp plants are done in cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) facilities enforced by the FDA to provide for systems that assure proper design, monitoring, and control of manufacturing processes and facilities.
The extraction process of our hemp plants uses critical CO2 extraction, the most environmentally beneficial option for hemp CBD oil extraction. When you hear the term CO2, it is not usually associated with a clean environment as we are often talking about reducing CO2 emissions or our carbon footprint. However, the CO2 extraction process produces the safest, purest CBD without leaving behind any toxic residues like the solvent method might. It is also the most efficient form of extraction, using less energy and any added solvents.
We use fallen Aspen tree shreds and recycled craft paper in our MAKA shipping boxes, and BPA-free plastic or recyclable glass for our formulated CBD products. We also use larger 2 oz glass bottles for our tinctures and 60 count (instead of 30) capsule bottles allowing for less shipping and more, longer-lasting dosages at a great price.
Our sustainable business and growing practices are not only good for the planet, it is also why MAKA Earth’s products are so effective for athletic and outdoor adventures as well as for everyday health and wellness.
